What Does a Car Detailing Service Do Different Than a Standard Wash Service?
A car detailing service should never be mistaken for a wash and waxing service, although some do offer these services together. Generally, a wash and wax job is simply that, the exterior of a vehicle will just be cleaned and waxed. However, when it comes to detailing, it goes so much further, and even though the majority of it is concentrated on the inside of a car, it does involve some exterior work too.
Car Interior detailing
The secret behind good detailing is taking one’s time to clean and restore a vehicle back to or as close to new as possible. Which means thoroughly vacuuming, this is often accompanied by the removal of the front seats, and the upholstery will be vacuumed also.
Once done, the likes of carpets, mats, and upholstery are cleaned, and depending on the vehicle’s condition, this could involve various products, such as upholstery foam cleaners to rug shampoos and spot cleaners. Also, a wet and dry vac may be used on fabric seats. Auto detailing generally removes almost every stain and leaves the carpets and seats looking like new.
Any vinyl areas within a car, like dashboards, door panels, and consoles, will first be cleaned and treated with a conditioner to keep it pliable. The steering wheel and foot pedals will not be conditioned for obvious reasons.
Exterior auto detailing
On the outside of a car, detailing will include cleaning wheels and rims of any brake dust and dirt. This will then be followed on by polishing the rims. Any wax residue will be removed from around the decals or chrome plates, and windows are treated with a rain repellent product. The engine is often cleaned too, using either steam or degreasers. The underside of the hood and rails will receive attention too.
